remarkable… it was touching, evocative and disturbing......
I came away saddened but also strangely elated.
The Times
In 2003 Artichoke joined forces with Artangel to produce a unique project – a Requiem for the village of Imber in the heart of Salisbury Plain. Sixty years ago, the village was requisitioned by the British Army for training purposes and its inhabitants were evacuated, never to return except for a special annual service at the church. Imber was designed to lay the past to rest, and took the form of an elegiac multimedia spectacle using the village itself as a stage. The evening culminated in a new work by leading Georgian composer, Giya Kancheli, performed by the Rustavi Choir and the Matrix Ensemble.
