Last Words
A poetry Festival without one poet spouting his works –
what a brilliant idea… the biggest home-grown poetry
event for years.
Financial Times
Last Words was the most ambitious, far-reaching and exciting celebration of poetry ever held in the UK. Produced in collaboration with poets Jo Shapcott and Don Paterson, Last Words was a poetry festival without a single poetry reading. The project transformed the city of Salisbury into a giant, living book of poems: poems were projected on buildings, carved into paving-stones, printed on bus tickets and displayed in shop windows. Poets read the news in verse and turned the sports results into rhyme, held poetry surgeries and workshops. Over 100 new poems were commissioned, and published by Picador in an anthology that sold out within weeks.
