LUMIERE 2013: DURHAM AND DERRY

14 November – 01 December 2013

In November 2013, LUMIERE light festival once again lit up the night in Durham. Then, one week later, we weaved a whole new noctural trail of lights through Derry~Londonderry to celebrate the end of their fantastic year as City of Culture.

Following two successful editions of LUMIERE in Durham in 2009 and 2011, we were re-commissioned by Durham County Council to produce a third edition of the light festival in 2013. With 27 stunning installations spread across the city, ranging from the bold and playful 'Elephantastic' to the enchanting 'Sanctuary', and the subtle and mystical '[M]ondes' to the dramatic 'Crown of Light' projection on the cathedral. Lumiere Durham has grown year on year with over 175,000 people attending this year's festival.

On the back of Lumiere's success in Durham, we were invited to stage Lumiere Derry~Londonderry as part of their finale for City of Culture 2013. Lumiere in Derry was a huge success with over 179,000 people coming out over four winter evenings to experience the festival.

The two festivals were individually curated and programmed, with a mix of high profile artist commissions, local artists and community initiatives. Programme details for each event are available on the Lumiere 2013 Website
