Leigh Bowery!, Tate Modern

Leigh Bowery was an Australian performance artist, club promoter and fashion designer based in London from 1980 to his death in 1994.

Flamboyant, avant-garde and absurd, Bowery’s short but extraordinary life left a lasting mark on the art world. His theatrical performances pushed boundaries of gender, sexuality, and bodily expression, transforming himself into living sculptures that challenged conventional notions of beauty and identity.

This retrospective exhibition will offer visitors a chance to experience the full spectrum of Bowery’s groundbreaking work and understand his pivotal role in London’s underground scene during a transformative era for queer culture.

When: Until 31 August 2025

Where: Tate Modern – Bankside, SE1 9TG

Pose, TV series

Pose is an American television show depicting the evolution of the underground 1980s ball culture at the height of the AIDS epidemic. A masterclass in make-up and costuming as well as delivering gripping storylines with heartfelt moments, Pose brings the New York ballroom scene to vivid life.

With groundbreaking transgender representation and performances that will leave you breathless, Pose celebrates the artistry, defiance, and unbreakable spirit of those who dared to live authentically when the world turned its back.
