When does the programme take place?
The programme begins on 22 Feb 2027 and closes on 25 Mar 2027.

How long does the resource take to complete?
The resource is fully adaptable to your capacity, with up to five tasks available to embed in your class plans. You can choose to take part in as few as two or all five of the tasks. You will have five weeks to complete the activities.

Do the pupils need to read The BFG?
It is not essential for pupils to have read or explored the story before the project begins but it may help to build the excitement. The educator resources will be accompanied by a summary of the story to ensure that pupils have context for the project quest they’re taking part in.

Who can take part?
The programme is designed for primary-aged students and is open to children learning in a range of settings, including schools, home education and alternative education provisions.

Is there a fee to take part?
No, the programme is completely free to take part in.

Do I need anything to take part?
The resource will be available as either a digital, interactive programme or a downloadable and printable version. To access the interactive digital programme, you will need a computer or device that can play video and sound. Pupils will work towards the same outcomes on both versions

My pupil(s) have different educational needs. Will the programme content be inclusive of their needs?
The resources will be provided with adaptations so that you can choose the appropriate level for the abilities of your pupils.

What learning and curriculum outcomes are covered in the resources?
The project aligns strongly with curriculum priorities through these key learning areas:
Reading, oracy and communication, creative writing, geography and place, personal development and aspirations, and editing and reflection.
With guidance from the National Literacy Trust and educators across the UK, we have ensured that learning outcomes work within the education frameworks from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Information on the tasks and specific curriculum outcomes will be supplied in more detail in November.

What CPD will be provided?
A free CPD will be provided to teachers in mid-November both digitally, through a narrated video.
In January, live online sessions will be held to answer questions about the programme and resources.

What if I receive any questions about Roald Dahl’s antisemitism?
Artichoke is acutely aware of and unreservedly condemns Roald Dahl’s antisemitic statements, for which his family and the Roald Dahl Story Company have publicly apologised. As a publicly accountable charity working with children, communities and national partners, we take equality, diversity and inclusion seriously and we reject anti-Jewish racism.
This is a child-centred project focused on literacy, tolerance and social cohesion. Literature, storytelling, and culture can be used to promote participation, empathy, and shared civic values. We are consulting with the Antisemitism Policy Trust and are briefing the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Jewish Leadership Council and PaJeS about the project.

The teacher resource will also provide links to relevant external resources and further learning about antisemitism, which educators may find useful.
